D. R. Young’s been a storyteller since he could grip a crayon—scribbling comic books as a kid in suburban shadows, dreaming up heroes and twists. As a teen, he traded pencils for pulpits, guest-preaching tales of faith to rapt congregations. Music came next—lyrics and melodies flowing from his creative spark—before a 24-year run as a software engineer took over. There, he spun code into solutions, turning impossible bugs into elegant fixes, all while a trove of unwritten stories simmered in the back of his mind.

Now, he’s home—husband to one, dad to four, and co-pilot to a scrappy Shih Tzu with a nose for adventure. After decades of problem-solving, D. R. flipped the script, channeling that grit into The Coldwater Chronicles—a Southern Missouri mystery series where a law grad with shaky peripheral vision battles small-town corruption teetering on collapse. It’s the first of many planned tales, born from childhood trips to a hauntingly familiar place, where every corner hides a secret begging to be cracked.

 

The engineer in him still tinkers—take his 60+ day X suspension fight (@drywrites), which sparked a wild AI fix-it pitch (check the blog!). But the writer’s taken the wheel, crafting novels that blend murder, thrills, and heart. A passion once scribbled in margins is now pages deep—umpteenth drafts and counting.
